Medical Devices and Vulnerable Skin Network (MDVS) Sandpit – 20 October 2016

You are invited to contact the MDVS Network to register for their sandpit event on Thursday 20th October 2016 (10am – 4pm) in the Chilworth Manor Hotel, University of Southampton Science Park, Southampton, UK, SO16 7PT.

At the event they will be announcing calls for partners to apply for grants of up to £50,000 to work in partnership with academics and clinicians to develop and test improved medical devices that will minimise damage to vulnerable skin. Examples of these medical devices could include respiratory masks, support surfaces (beds or chairs), or prosthetic/orthotic devices

Over a third of hospitalised pressure ulcers are caused by interventional medical devices. The underlying causes of these device related ulcers are diverse, but there are some common themes including correct use of materials, design features and the need to develop intelligent self-monitoring when a device is in use.

There will be a number of speakers confirmed who will be talking about their functional medical device, sensing technologies and novel materials and designs that can minimise the risk of damage to vulnerable tissues as well as the availability of new funding mechanisms to support potential projects from both the MDVSN and MRC.

To find out more, explore the issues involved, and learn how this funded collaboration may help you develop products with a competitive safety advantage, contact Fiona Brewer (F.Brewer@soton.ac.uk). There will be no registration fees for this event.
