Kidney Research UK are currently inviting applications for Stoneygate Research Awards, with a deadline of 19 September 2019.

Kidney Research UK is the leading charitable funder of kidney research in the UK. Since 1985, they have invested around £79million into research.  They support a wide range of research that will advance the understanding of kidney disease and its causes, and improve treatment and management.

KRUK are working in partnership with The Stoneygate Trust on this second year of a three-year dedicated programme of £800,000 per annum.

Applications are now invited for:

Research Project Grants
These are stand-alone research projects that will advance our knowledge of kidney disease and refine current treatments or lead to new advances in the future.

Applications for Research Project grants can request up to a maximum of £300,000, which can be spread over a period of up to three years.

Innovation Grants
These are stand-alone research studies that will advance our knowledge of kidney disease particularly for new hypotheses where initial pilot/supporting data is required prior to a full research project.

Applications for Innovation grants can request up to a maximum of £50,000, which can be spread over a period of up to two years.

Proposals must be able to demonstrate impact in any one or more of the following areas of focus:

  • Translational research from laboratory to clinic
  • Research in clinical settings
  • Research into rare renal disease
  • Increasing kidney transplant outcomes

We particularly encourage applications that involve multi-disciplinary teams and are taking a holistic approach which is broader than renal, provides wider health impact and non-clinical involvement.

A total of £800k is available for this year’s call and we expect to make around 4 to 6 awards.

Applying and submitting your application

All applicants must be resident in the United Kingdom and both the project and employment must also take place in a UK establishment.

Successful applicants will be expected to provide Kidney Research UK with regular reports and should be prepared to host site visits and speak about their research on behalf of the charity.

The closing date is 5pm on 19 September 2019. Applications are online only.

Funding decisions will be communicated in February 2020.
