Learn more about The Starworks Child Prosthetics Research Network in our new film!
The film highlights the Starworks Programme, featuring some of the funded projects, the team behind it all as well as all the children and young people that made it all possible – thank you!
The Starworks Network aims to promote and support research and innovation in the field of child prosthetics. The following film was premiered at the Child Health Technology 2022 conference in May 2022, and we are pleased and proud to share it with you below:
What is The Starworks Network?
The Starworks Network is a collaboration of families, charities, healthcare professionals, academics and industry experts brought together by a shared motivation to improve the lives of children and young people who use prosthetics.
Since our initial funding from the Department of Health in 2017, Starworks has undertaken a comprehensive unmet needs assessment, hosted 4 multi-stakeholder Sandpit events across the UK, and funded 10 Proof of Concept projects, 6 of which also received follow on funding and support. To build on the momentum generated by this work, we have also created The Starworks Expert Network (for healthcare professionals, academics, industry and related charities) and The Starworks Ambassador Network (for children who use a prosthetic, their siblings and their parents/guardians).
A collaborative approach, ensuring the voices of children and families are heard, remains central to every aspect of Starworks. This summary video discusses our approach in more detail, and also introduces viewers to several of key collaborators.
The Starworks Network is currently hosted by the National Institute for Health and Care Research Devices for Dignity MedTech Co-operative (NIHR D4D) and the National Institute for Health and Care Research Children and Young People MedTech Co-operative (NIHR CypMedTech). We are proud to present this video detailing the Starworks story so far, filmed and edited by the wonderful Emma Vickers from Optical Jukebox.
With special thanks to the children and families who have contributed to the Starworks community so far, and to LimbPower Charity – without you, none of this work would be possible.
